With the Ear of Your Heart, Rejoice!
(Benet Academy Choir and Symphonic Band of Lisle, Illinois)
2001
With the Ear of Your Heart, Rejoice! was commissioned in 2001 for performance on May 17 at the dedication of Benet Academy’s new performing arts facility, St. Daniel Hall. The work was first performed by the Benet Academy combined choruses and symphonic band under the direction of Ryan Hourigan. The text is taken from Zephanaiah 3:14 & 17, Psalm 138:1, and the wisdom of St. Benedict.
Listen carefully, my son, to the master’s instructions,
And attend to them with the ear of your heart.
--The Rule of St. Benedict
I will praise you, O Lord, with all my heart (NIV);
in the presence of the angels I will sing to you (RSB).
--Psalm 138:1
Sing, O Daughter of Zion;
shout aloud, O Israel!
Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O Daughter of Jerusalem!
The Lord your God is with you,
he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing.
--Zephaniah 3:14 & 17(NIV)
